Testing

I am pleased to report that we currently have no Covid cases amongst staff or residents. Staff continue to be tested weekly and residents every 28 days although we are able to ad–hoc test any resident sooner than 28 days should we require to do this.

We are currently in the height of holiday season for our staff. With the mixed and diverse workforce we are proud to employ, it means that some staff travel overseas to go and visit family and loved ones.

We have implemented very strict measures to monitor where staff go and in particular, review on a daily basis, the countries that are on the UK Government list of countries that requires an individual to quarantine for 14 days on return to the UK.

This means that any member of staff who has visited a country that requires them to quarantine cannot return to work until after the 14th night of self isolating.

Staff who visit countries that are not on the Government list, or visit other places within the UK, are required to have a Covid test before returning to work.

Visiting Thorpe Wood

I know that limiting visits to Thorpe Wood has been difficult for many families and residents who want to see their loved ones. Our priority during the pandemic has always been the protection of our residents and staff, and to prevent infections entering the home.

The current visiting arrangements still remain in place and I am thankful for your support and patience in adhering to the current arrangements.

As winter is approaching, I am beginning to be asked what our arrangements may look like during the winter period. At the moment I am only able to confirm that we are reviewing the winter visiting arrangements at the home and I will hopefully be able to update you what this will be in a couple of weeks time.

PPE

Our policies regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that were implemented when the homes were closed to non essential visitors remain in place, and we have sufficient supplies. We felt it was important that you were aware that we have no concerns about maintaining this supply.

Current Position

Visits to Thorpe Wood to see residents are restricted

• We have taken the decision to ‘cocoon’ our residents from all non-essential contact to protect their safety and welfare.
• Garden visits to meet with residents are available by appointment.

Video Calling

• We have Skype video calling at Thorpe Wood for relatives and friends to speak with residents.

• Thorpe Wood has an email newsletter for relatives and friends.
• Please contact the home for information on the newsletter.

End-of-life Care

• For visits to residents under end-of-life care plans please contact the home manager to discuss visiting arrangements.

Medical visits

• Visits from medical professionals continue.
• Where practical, medical professionals are using Skype for video consultations.
• Hospital visits by residents continue.

Other services

• All external entertainers have been cancelled until further notice.
• All trips out have been cancelled until further notice.

Deliveries

• All deliveries continue to be accepted.
• All professional services continue to be accepted.
