Peterborough moves into Tier 4

We all recognise that Christmas is going to be different for us all this year, and even more so now that Peterborough has been placed into a Tier 4 area.

This is the highest level the Government has placed the city in to date. The rates of infection in our City almost match those of London, and consequently we must be extra vigilant in ensuring the safety of our residents.

We are preparing ourselves to once again tackle this head on by implementing measures and procedures to help us manage the Covid-19 risk. Sadly, this will affect the way we work.

Government Guidance

The current government guidance regarding Care Home visiting within a Tier 4 area states:

‘Visits to care homes can take place with arrangements such as substantial screens, visiting pods, or behind windows.’

We are therefore immediately implementing new measures at our Care Homes.

Visiting our Care Homes

• We are continuing with visits using the visiting pods.
• Until we are able to better understand the infection rates, garden visiting and bedroom window visiting is temporarily stopped.
• Visiting inside our care home will now only extend to End Of Life Care residents. Those visiting must take the Antigen Rapid Test which can be done at our Care Homes.

Visiting Family

In line with Government guidance, residents going to visit family is now not an available option.

Hairdressers

With immediate effect, hairdressers will not be permitted to come and do residents hair.

We are following the guidance regarding hairdressers not being classed as essential visitors / services, and also that hair salons have been asked to close. In general, mobile hairdressers also visit more than one care home which brings additional risks to both us and other homes.

Visiting Professionals

Essential visits from health professionals such as doctors and district nurses, and people repairing critically important equipment, are still going ahead.

All non-essential visits are now postponed.

I want to thank our friends and relatives for the support you have shown us during this unprecedented period, as I know it can’t be easy for any of you.

Current Position

Visits to our Homes to see residents are restricted

• We have taken the decision to ‘cocoon’ our residents from all non-essential contact to protect their safety and welfare.
• Visiting Pod visits to meet with residents are available by appointment.
• Garden visits and Window visits are suspended.
• Please contact the home for further information.

Video Calling

• We have Skype video calling at our Homes for relatives and friends to speak with residents.
• Please contact the home for information on the service.

Newsletter

• Each Home has an email newsletter for relatives and friends.
• Please contact the home for information on the newsletter.

End-of-life Care

• For visits to residents under end-of-life care plans please contact the home manager to discuss visiting arrangements.

Medical visits

• Visits from medical professionals continue.
• Where practical, medical professionals are using Skype for video consultations.
• Hospital visits by residents continue.

Other services

• All external entertainers have been cancelled until further notice.
• All trips out have been cancelled until further notice.

Deliveries

• All deliveries continue to be accepted.
• All professional services continue to be accepted.

New Care Enquiries

• For ALL new care enquiries please contact our Care Enquiries Team.
• We are no longer accepting ‘walk-in’ enquiries at the homes or at Head Office.
