Peterborough Care would like to offer reassurance of our commitment to keep your loved ones safe amid recent publicity regarding the spread of Coronavirus. We will deal with any suspected outbreak of the virus in accordance with published NHS and Department of Health Guidelines. The guidelines cover the potential identification and diagnosis of the virus in somebody connected to one of our homes as well as the process to be followed thereafter – isolating of the infected person, their transfer to a specialist unit, and the environmental deep cleaning of the Home.

You may be aware that the UK Chief Medical Officer has now raised the risk of the Coronavirus being a public health emergency of international concern from low to moderate and as such it is imperative that we first and foremost protect the safety and welfare of our residents.

This is why we have taken steps to put measures in place and we rely on your support to assist us with these including the communicating of them.

It is important to bear in mind that every year our Homes prepare to respond to infectious diseases such as Diarrhoea and Vomiting, and a severe flu outbreak. Therefore, whilst coronavirus is new, it is very much business as usual for how we safeguard the health of our Residents and Colleagues.

All of our homes currently remain open to visitors, but we are now taking steps to minimise the risk of infection to our Residents and Colleagues. Such measures have already begun to be implemented.

Before visiting any of our homes, please consider the following:

• We are currently advising visitors to only visit if it is necessary to do so. If you can delay your visit or achieve its purpose via another method, such as a phone call please do so.
• We request that if you do need to visit, that you do so between the hours of 2pm – 5pm
• We are changing keypad access codes that allow access into our homes without the need to ring the doorbell so that we can monitor the flow of visitors and guide you through the revised procedures.
• We ask that visits are no more than two visitors at a time. For the safety of children, we recommend that they do not visit whilst our Coronavirus procedures are in place.

Important:

• If you are currently feeling unwell, please do not visit our homes, particularly if you have a cough, a fever or high-temperature, or have shortness of breath.
• If you have recently been abroad or been in close contact with someone who has, please do not visit one of our homes if you have recently returned from a Category 1 or Category 2 country, as defined on the NHS website. In particular Category 1 Area’s are: Wuhan City and Hubei Province (China). As part of our measures we are extending this to China including Hong Kong, Iran, Daegu or Cheongdo (Republic of Korea), and Italy. Category 2 Area’s are;; Cambodia, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Having considered the above information, if you are still planning to visit one of our care homes it is important that you do so safely and in a way that minimises the risk of infection to our Residents and Colleagues. Therefore, before visiting and whilst on site, please consider the following:

• It is important that you wash your hands thoroughly before you visit the care home, and regularly whilst you are at the home. Please make sure you wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, using either hot water and soap or 60% alcohol sanitiser gel. There are posters available at the homes to guide you with effective handwashing techniques
• We understand there are many reasons why someone may have a cough or sneeze. However, whilst visiting the care home please make sure you have a tissue on you at all times so that you can catch a cough or sneeze. Please then immediately dispose of the tissue in the bin. Remember – Catch it. Bin it. Kill it.

We appreciate your full cooperation with our Coronavirus procedures, we rely on your support to communicate our procedures out to family and friends connected to your loved one and we will continue to keep you updated as changes to our procedures occur.
